PRP Frequently Asked Questions

Before During After Care

Are there any side effects or adverse reactions?

PRP is a totally natural treatment since it is derived from your own blood. However, the injection is still a minor invasive procedure and most of the reactions that may occur are from the needle sticks themselves. These reactions may include redness, local swelling, itching, discolouration, and local pain. These are common to any injection procedure and are temporary, typically resolving on their own within 1 to 3 days. There is also potential for minor bruising in the treated area, which may last seven to ten days. We recommend that you plan your treatment when you can take some downtime if necessary.

Before and After information for Skin Treatments

Before Treatment for Face and Hair

  • Avoid using alcohol, aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Ibuprofen/Advil) and, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E or supplements, Arnica, and Turmeric. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

  • Increase your intake of fluid the day before your procedure by drinking 2 glasses of water in the morning before your PRP session, 2 glasses at lunch and 2 glasses at dinner. Eat a normal breakfast or lunch the day of your PRP session. Avoid coffee the morning of the procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol and cigarettes for three days before your PRP session. The more the better as we find smoking really impacts the healing process!
